Entering dance through the eyes of a performer, I have always had a keen sensitivity to the delicate, powerful and poignant relationship that exists between dancer and viewer. It has been my interest in this dynamic relationship that has driven my solo and group choreography, as well as my improvisation scores.
I am fascinated with the interconnectedness of context and meaning, and in how intimate relationships between people and within the individual echo and comment on greater society.
In my through-composed work I seek to reveal something of underlying structures in the world, the mechanisms through which we express our most basic emotions. Through improvisation, I revel in the notion that our most complex experiences live in “NOW” and vanish just as quickly.
Some of my works stand on the side of the steadfast, while other ‘scores’ fly with the fleeting nature of time, but in every piece I honor the duality of structure and ephemera, of bone and breath.
I am also a collaborator by nature, finding strength in passionate relationships between image, text, sound and movement. However, the body is my medium, my first language, and what resonates most deeply in the experience of my work.
